MEETINGS
Tuesday 12th November 2024 JPAG Pharmaceutical Analysis Research Awards and Careers Fair 2024 Royal Society of Chemistry, London
Based on the great success of the past years, JPAG presents this year's Pharmaceutical Analysis Symposium for postgraduate, undergraduate and early career scientists.
This event will provide the opportunity for you to listen to and hear the latest research being carried out by your peers. Early career scientists (undergraduate, postgraduate, industrial) conducting research in various areas of pharmaceutical science will showcase their work through oral and poster presentations with prizes for best posters and best podium presentations (including the prestigious Geoffrey Phillips Award).
A Careers Fair will also be running in parallel during the symposium and will provide delegates with an opportunity to have 1:1 consultations with career advisors from a selection of pharmaceutical employers and organisations including major pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations and recruitment advisors. Perhaps your future employer will be here!
Also, we have two very high profile Keynote speakers, who will each provide an inspirational and enlightening talk for delegates. Their details are shown below.
And additionally, the Royal Society of Chemistry's Careers Team will give a talk on 'Job Hunting in the Pharmaceutical Industry' and will conduct a 'CV Surgery' at the Careers Fair: these are one-to-one discussions to get invaluable advice on successful job applications. So be sure to bring your CV along!
Come along and network with peers, experienced academics, industrial scientists, high profile keynote presenters, and leading companies who are providing careers advice.
This is an event you will not want to miss!
Registration will open at 9:00am for a 9:30am start, and the day will end with a Careers and Networking drinks reception starting at 4:50pm.
Keynote speakers:
Prof Amira Guirguis - Swansea University
Professor Amira Guirguis is an accomplished pharmacist, independent prescriber, and a renowned expert in substance misuse. In this talk, she traces the trajectory of her distinguished career from the lab bench to leading clinical and policy innovations. Drawing on her expertise in analytical techniques, chemometrics, in silico modeling, pharmacovigilance, social listening, and AI-driven analyses, Professor Guirguis showcases how these diverse research methods have been pivotal in advancing her groundbreaking work. With a PhD in Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) detection, and as Principal Investigator of the first Home Office-licensed Pharmacist-led drug checking service in the UK, she highlights the practical impact of her research on drug policy and healthcare. As the MPharm Programme Director at Swansea University and Chair of the RPS Science and Research Committee, Professor Guirguis shares how her journey continues to shape the future of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science.
Dr Zoë Ayres - The Open University
Dr Zoë Ayres is Head of Laboratories at the Open University, managing a portfolio of over 180 scientific labs (many of them analytical) with a team of over 60 technical staff. This talk will explore Zoë's career to date, and how going from organising an early career analytical conference has resulted in her being the Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Science Community President today. She will discuss how opportunity, luck, and perseverance have played a role, as well as challenges behind the scenes.
Laura Woodward - RSC Career and Professional Development Adviser
Laura Woodward has worked for the Royal Society Of Chemistry for 17 years with a background in HR and Recruitment, across a variety of sectors. Laura has worked as a Career and Professional Development Adviser for over 12 years and provides guidance to members at all stages of their careers, from undergraduates right through to retirement. TESTIMONIALS...
Very enjoyable and thought-provoking day; going away with plenty of notes and specific items for discussion.
Excellent meeting, challenging and thought provoking. The organisation was excellent, thanks to all the efforts that JPAG team have made.
I have not attended a bad JPAG meeting yet. They are really good value for money and I really love to get the presentations as PDFs
I did appreciate receiving the slides before, as then I could print them and make notes around them during the symposium.
Getting an industry perspective on this topic was most helpful.
I appreciate having access to relevant JPAG seminars from overseas; provision of lectures beforehand to allow reading beforehand.
I did like having the presentations available early, with the webinar portion being focused on Q&A.
Fantastic to hear from NHS speaker, provides real insight to patient/clinician considerations that we don't necessarily see in industry.
From attendee perspective, the course did not take up the whole day as no travel necessary and overall good value for money.
Hearing the information from the clinical setting side was very useful.
Well organized. This was an amazing session. Prior sharing of the presentation was a great add on!
The most useful aspect of the webinar was the variety in the presentations across industry and the regulators. Really good to review the presentations beforehand.
Good value, well organised symposium. Always useful for focused topics.
A very good day. Enjoyed getting to speak to the presenters to discuss current challenges in industry.
Well done to all the speakers and the organisers for being able to successfully hold highly informative conferences virtually! (July 2020)
